STOCKHOLM THE VENICE OF THE NORTH

Stockholm, this immovable city, is built on 14 islands and connected by 57 bridges. It is therefore wet with a lot of water and water sports enthusiasts will be able to indulge in many of their favorite activities in this city.

Sweden also recycles 99% of its garbage while 52% comes from natural energy sources.

After landing and walking into this city's huge airport, which is about an hour from the city center, we arrived at our accommodation and immediately began our trek into the city center.

Our first stop is Gamlastan, the old town with its wonderful colorful buildings. You will get lost in its narrow streets and admire its architecture. Walking we reached the City Hall, which is built of 8 million red bricks, so incredible..

Then we admired the Royal Palace with its 600 rooms, where you have the feeling that you too become a king for a while.

A little further down, the city's Cathedral with its pink color dominates imposingly and we entered to see the place where the majestic coronation of the respective kings takes place.

The next few days were dedicated to museums and more, so we started our day at the Vasa Museum. Entering, we saw the legendary ship that was built in the 17th century, specifically in 1628. Its lower layers could hold 200 people and cannons. Unfortunately, due to a construction error in the hold, the ship sank just outside the port and for this reason it was preserved in all its splendor.

A little further on is the Nordic Museum, another equally remarkable museum that presents the entire Swedish history and culture of this country.

If you are a fan of Swedish music and specifically the band ABBA, you can visit their museum and listen to their music, see their clothes and various items.

SKANSEN is another interesting museum, open air, where you can learn about the way of life of the Swedes as well as admire various animals found there.

Another very special museum is the NOBEL museum, in which you will find objects of people who won this prize, you will learn a lot about their various achievements, as well as about ALFRED NOBEL, the founder of this museum.

The city's two libraries, both the basilica and the Public library, are also impressive, with countless book titles and you can sit quietly in a corner and get lost in the magical world of books.

What stood out to me is the Photography Museum (photographiska museum) which contained many rooms with portfolios of many notable photographers.

Photography enthusiasts will get lost in this wonderful setting.

There are also other museums in the city, such as the Historical museum, National museum, Post museum, Etnografiska museum, Moderna museum, Viking museum and many others.

Just outside the city at around 12 kilometers is the imposing DROTTINGHOLM CASTLE, the king's summer holiday palace. A walk through its green gardens will reward you.

In Stockholm there are also many parks, in which you can spend your day very pleasantly, especially if the weather allows it. One of the things we particularly liked is the Jurgarden park, where we walked and then enjoyed a cold Swedish beer at the local cafe.

The multiple islands of this city, which are connected by 57 bridges, also give you the opportunity for countless walks, hiking, cycling, running and also water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, sailing.

Due to the many waters of the Baltic Sea that wash over the city, you can do many outdoor activities as long as the weather permits.

A very beautiful activity that we did was the ride on the ships that are scattered around the city. We entered one of them and he showed us around a specific area (we chose the one in the city center). The duration is one hour and you have the opportunity to see the city from the sea and admire the very beautiful buildings from afar her. Worth!

Finally, it has many wonderful cafes, bars and restaurants where you can enjoy your drink or your coffee while looking at the Baltic Sea. To stop for a Swedish Fika as the Swedes say, for a break. We singled out Freyia for its fantastic view, roof top TAC for its pulse, Fotographiska café for its wonderful view, the famous hard rock café which is like a museum as you see many personal items of rock singers and bands, and the Grand café in the center of the city to gaze at the countless tourists walking there as well as its beautiful park with its lovely pink trees.

Stockholm has many things to offer its visitor. Parks, museums, imposing buildings but also water activities, hiking, cycling, bars, cafes, festivals, photography and much more that you must visit to discover them yourself.

It is a very romantic city and rightly called the Venice of the North!
